South Melbourne FC

The Blue and White Forever

charities

South Melbourne Football Club is not for profit members based club, which has a proud tradition of volunteering time and resources in assisting and driving major charity initiatives in Melbourne.

Strong community structures and values do not develop on their own but instead need to be instilled and reinforced by all organisations. South Melbourne FC takes this responsibility very seriously and conducts events every quarter that support various charities. The Club’s community participation is a pivotal area of interest and is an important component of our club’s moral compass.

The Challenge Group

South Melbourne FC organised a football clinic and matches for ‘The Challenge group’. This organisation provides kids with cancer and their brothers and sisters an opportunity to have some time-out from cancer treatment and the rigours of hospital visits.

Fatality Free Friday

Since its inception in 2007, the Fatality Free Friday campaign has continued to expand its operation and is now recognised as Australia’s only national community based road safety program. Our Principal Partner, Bob Jane T-Marts, is a significant supporter of this campaign, and we at South Melbourne FC were proud to get behind and promote this great initiative.

Victoria Police – Tony Clarke Shield.

Prior to the South Melbourne Fc vs. Oakleigh Cannons match, a Socceroos Select XI played the Victoria Police ‘Coperoos’ for the Tony Clarke Shield, held in memory of Senior Constable Tony Clarke, who was murdered while on duty in April 2005.

Lakeside Charity Cup

South Melbourne FC organised and funded ‘The Lakeside Charity Cup’ whereby over 10,000 people came through our Lakeside Stadium and surrounding Albert Park sports precinct to see 140 Junior teams (from 8 clubs) play over 12 days of matches. All players taking part in the Cup made a financial donation. Politicians, sports delegates, the Chairman of the State Sports Centre Trust where at hand at the final day to award a $5,000 cheque to the Koala Kids Foundation (an organisation that supports kids with cancer).

Footys4all Foundation

South Melbourne provided 100 SMFC footballs to the Footys4All Foundation. The Footys4All Foundation is a registered not for profit children’s sporting foundation, that supplies new sporting balls from all codes (footballs, basketballs, soccer balls etc.) to disadvantaged, underprivileged and socially displaced children from around Australia and the world

Living without Limits Foundation

The Living Without Limits Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2012 by four very passionate and enthusiastic friends, all committed to simply doing something positive to help children impaired in some capacity.

The Foundation works extremely hard to raise funds for very ‘specific’ purposes – to fund critical research, support various children’s organisations, assist in developmental practices and purchase important equipment – as determined by the Foundation’s Board, which is very ‘hands on’.

Living Without Limits seeks to help all children to overcome challenges, be participatory, set and achieve their goals and maximise their potential. It works to break down barriers and restrictions and provide opportunities.

MS Australia

South Melbourne officials joined Corporate Partner Jim Rigogiannis of JR Training, who held a fundraising dinner at Kinisi to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). There were a number of special guests at the event, including recent Sport Australia Hall of Fame inductee, kick boxing legend Stan ‘The Man’ Longinidis’ who provided an inspirational speech on overcoming obstacles and adversity in life.

The condition MS is a progressive disease of the nervous system, for which there is no cure. Approximately one in twenty Australians will be touched by MS through a family member, colleague or friend with the disease. An estimated 23,000 people in Australia have MS, with 1,000 Australians are diagnosed with MS every year.

Down Syndrome Victoria

South Melbourne FC was thrilled to have members of Down Syndrome Victoria’s Club 21 in attendance during our home match against Hume City on Sunday evening at Lakeside Stadium.

Down Syndrome Victoria works to empower individuals with Down Syndrome for a lifetime of meaningful inclusion within the community.

The group in attendance on Sunday enjoyed the fantastic South Melbourne win and also received a South Melbourne FC pack that included the latest merchandise for them to wear proudly. One lucky member of Club 21 also received boots from Tyson Holmes.
