South Melbourne FC 2010 Season Launch

    Sunday, 24 January 2010 1:07 PM

The SMFC football season kicks off with its traditional Season Launch event, to be held at Albert by the Lake on Friday 26th February. Be a part of South’s launch into the new season as we celebrate the arrival of new players, launch the 2010 Membership Campaign, announce the 2010 Major Corporate Partners. In addition, players will receive their jerseys, and we hear from our Head Coach, Vaughn Coveny, on his insights for the season ahead.

As part of the fundraising event, the player auction will be held as well, with all eyes on which player will receive the largest bid.

The event will play host to what promises to be another fantastic night with plenty of sensational items up for grabs in the silent auction. You’ll be treated to a sumptuous three-course dinner with beers, wines and soft drinks. A raffle will also be conducted, and some great prizes will be up for grabs.

The previous two Season Launch events in 2008 and 2009 have seen the event sell out as corporate partners, players, volunteers, and fans all celebrate the coming season. Last year, South launched its 50th anniversary year in great style, with a marquee on the hallowed turf of Bob Jane Stadium, with over 300 guests were in attendance.

This event is always one of the main highlights on the SMFC events calendar, and provides fans and corporate partners alike the opportunity to mingle and chat with our playing squad.

    World Football Gala Postponed

    Sunday, 24 January 2010 12:42 PM

    South Melbourne FC

South Melbourne FC would like to advise that the 2010 World Football Gala has been postponed.

The International Football Federation of History and Statistics has advised South Melbourne FC of the reasons behind the postponement, and a new tentative date in May has been nominated for the awards ceremony. South Melbourne FC will announce a new date for the awards ceremony when further clarification has been provided by event organisers.

Below is the Press Release issued by the International Football Federation of History and Statistics regarding the postponement of the World Football Gala.

    IFFHS PRESS RELEASE

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has today decided to postpone the Ceremony of Awards “The World Football Gala 2010” which was set to take place at The Hurlingham Club London on 1st February 2010.

This decision had to be taken by the IFFHS, as several international players who have agreed to attend the event are unable to participate because of the rescheduling of some matches. The English Premier League and Italian Serie A have rescheduled some games due to heavy snow falls and bad weather during these last weeks in Europe.

The ceremony award will now take place in May, shortly before the end of the big national championship games prior to the pre-World Cup short break. We will let you have the date in the very next future.

Every year, the IFFHS, based in Bonn (Germany) presents during the ceremony the awards to a number of players and clubs who have performed splendidly over the previous year. The awards are bestowed on the basis of very precise, scientific criteria, and are as such widely recognised by the football community throughout the world.

This year’s “Award Ceremony” will also include a very special award presented to six clubs worldwide which have been granted the title of “Club of the Century”; these trophies acknowledge their sport achievements over the last decades.
