All Abilities Football

All Abilities Football is a modified version of the game specifically created to ensure everybody has the opportunity to play football, regardless of the age, gender, background or ability. The format and conmpetition rules have been adjusted to ensure the All Abilities League is flexible, inclusive and accessible to perople living with a disability of all ages and abilities. Anyone living with a physical or intellectual is eligible to play socially or competitively.

South Melbourne FC will be aiming to form a team for the first time in 2021. The team will compete in the Football Victoria All Abilities League which is a semi-competitive format. The All Abilities League will run from May to September in 2021.

 

All Abilities Football Competition

Football Victoria – Social League

Football Victoria manages two social leagues for All Abilities Football. The Juniors league is for those aged 6 to 14 and the Open League is for those aged 14 and over.

The social leagues are played on a grass or synthetic grass pitch, quarter the size of a standard football (soccer) pitch. There are two teams of five players and physical support on the  pitch for players is permitted.

Football Victoria – Competitive League

Football Victoria manages two competitive leagues for All Abilities Football. Division 1 is competitive and Division 2 is semi-competitive.

The competitive leagues are played on a grass or synthetic grass pitch, half the size of a standard football (soccer) pitch. There are two teams of seven players (including the goal keeper). Physical support on the  pitch for players is not permitted. Matches are held over 2x 20 minute halves.

 

All Abilities Football Teams

South Melbourne FC

South Melbourne FC is aiming to form a team for the first time in 2021. The team will compete in the competitive league managed by  Football Victoria. This league is for those aged 14 or above, any gender, any ability, with a physical or intellectual disability. The league comprises two Gala Days and 8 competitive rounds runing from May to September 2021.

If there is sufficient interest and player numbers, additional teams for junior or social football may be added.

 

All Abilities Football Equipment

There is no special equipment required to participate in All Abilities Football.

South Melbourne FC will provide registered players with a training jersey or a full playing kit depending on their level of participation. Players are required to supply their own football boots and shin pads/guards.

 

All Abilities Football Costs to Play

Football Victoria

There is an annual player registration fee levied by Football Victoria. This player registration fee covers the costs of running the All Abilities Football League and insurance cover for players. South Melbourne FC incoporates this fee as part of the players club registration fee, and makes the payment to Football Victoria on the players behalf.

South Melbourne FC

South Melbourne FC subsidises the playing costs for All Abilities Football players to reduce barriers to them participating in the sport. This fee for 2021 is of $50 and is payable to the club at the time of registration. This may be claimable under the players NDIS plan.

 

How to get involved

We welcome all ages, all genders and all abilities to join us.

We encourage anyone interested in knowing more to come along to any of training sesisons or to a round of All Abilities League to understand what its all about. This is free and you are under no obligaiton to participate or join in. All of our players and volunteers are happy to have a chat and share their experiences.
