Harrison Sawyer joins for 2020 season

South Melbourne FC is delighted to announce the signing of Australian marquee Harrison Sawyer ahead of the 2020 NPL Victoria season.

The 22-year-old striker joins us from Tai Po of Hong Kong, where he played a leading role in their championship winning season and helped them reach the AFC Cup group stages.

Prior to his experience in Hong Kong, Harrison had a successful stint at Davao Aguilas in the Phillipines boasting an impressive goal record. He also spent time with the Newcastle Jets in the Hyundai A-League.

Standing at 195cm, Sawyer provides SMFC coach Esteban Quintas with a strong, aggressive and prolific option up front. His ability to win the ball both in the air and at ground level, plus his ability to shoot from range will be exciting components of his game to watch.

Speaking to smfc.com.au, SMFC Football Director Andrew Mesourouni was thrilled to have Sawyer at Lakeside Stadium. “Despite only being 22 years of age, Harrison joins the club having a wealth of goal-scoring experience both domestically and throughout professional leagues in Asia. He is a strong and hard-working striker and we can’t wait to see him on the park in 2020.”

Sawyer himself was excited about joining the club. “South Melbourne is a big club in Australian football and I am ecstatic to be joining them for the upcoming season. I am looking forward to making an impact at Lakeside and scoring goals to give the fans exciting moments on the park. I can’t wait to get started.”

We look forward to seeing Harrison in our colours throughout the 2020 season.
