South Melbourne FC has continued to bolster its squad for the 2010 season by signing former Heidelberg United duo James Stefanou and Marinos Gasparis.

Gasparis enjoyed a solid season in the middle of the park for the Bergers. However his finest work was in the 2007 season, where his vision and skill were instrumental in helping the Preston Lions to win the Championship. South fans may recall his incredible goal against South that season in the 3-3 thriller at Bob Jane Stadium.

Speaking to smfc.com.au, Gasparis was excited to be joining South Melbourne FC.

“I am grateful to join the biggest club in the Victorian Premier League and in particular I am looking forward to playing alongside my new team-mates in front of the most vocal fans in Victoria.”

Stefanou returns to South for his second stint with the club after initially arriving at Bob Jane Stadium in 2005. The 22 year old only played 15 matches for the club in 2005 and 2006 before being loaned out to Western Suburbs. From there he joined Heidelberg, where he had an excellent 2009 season. Stefanou will be looking to cement a place at centre back in what is already looking to be a solid back line.

Stefanou was also excited to be a part of the Blue and White army. “Once again it is an honour to pull on the famous blue shirt and to play for the most successful and proudest club in the country.”

South Melbourne FC welcomes the signings of Marinos Gasparis and James Stefanou and wishes both players all the best for 2010.
