There is nothing more fulfilling for a young footballer than to meet their childhood heroes.
On Sunday night, that dream came true for South Melbourne FC Under 16s player Nicky Edwards.
Adidas hosted an urban football tournament at Docklands studios to promote the launch of their new football boot ACE & X. The tournament featured juniors from Box Hill, Port Melbourne, Eltham and South Melbourne.
The entire Real Madrid squad watched the finalists, with Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema presenting the official match ball for the last game of the evening.
The Los Blancos squad watched on as the players showed off their skills in front of a packed crowd under lights.
Edwards described the night as “one of the best experiences of my life in being able to meet some of the world’s best footballers.”
The impact events like these have on young footballers is enormous and will be forever entrenched in their memory. “It’s what every kid strives to achieve in their career, to play professionally and to one day be good enough to play for a club like Madrid”, Edwards added.
“Thank you to both Adidas and SMFC for this wonderful opportunity.”
