South Melbourne will meet the Oakleigh Cannons for the second time this season with South Melbourne striving to continue on their winning ways after thrashing St Albans 8-1, while the Oakleigh Cannons will also be looking for maximum points after their impressive 2-0 victory over Heidelberg United last weekend.

South Melbourne is in red hot form with five wins in the past five matches including an 8-1 thrashing of St Albans on the weekend. Coming from an impressive 3-0 victory over Heidelberg United, South were able to dominate right from the outset against St Albans led by a Leigh Minopoulos hat-trick and a Matthew Millar brace at home last weekend. Now top of the table, the boys will be striving to continue on their winning ways with maximum points against the Oakleigh Cannons in their second consecutive match at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Coming off a 2-0 loss to Avondale, Oakleigh were able to bounce back with a stunning 2-0 victory over Heidelberg United courtesy of two second half goals to Bosnjak in the 60th minute and Marafioti in the 80th minute. With an impressive win against the Bergers, the Cannons will be striving to knock down NPL Giants and defending champions South Melbourne with three points away from home.


The last time these two teams met was in Round 6 this year where the Oakleigh Cannons secured a narrow 1-0 win over South Melbourne at Jack Edwards Reserve courtesy of a second half goal to Dean Piemonte in the 53rd minute.
