South announces Tangalakis as Senior Coach

South Melbourne FC would like to announce the appointment of Con Tangalakis as the Coach of our Senior Men’s team for the 2019 NPL Season, Esteban Quintas as his Assistant Coach and George Apostolidis as the Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Con has amassed a wealth of football knowledge in his coaching career, including playing stints at Port Melbourne FC and Oakleigh. He is well known to fans of Victorian football, having previously coached the Oakleigh Cannons for three seasons, including taking them to the Grand Final of the 2016 NPL Victoria season.

Most recently, Con took over as Coach the South Melbourne Senior Men’s squad part way through the 2018 NPL season managing the team from Round 18 onward.

Speaking to smfc.com.au, President elect Nicholas Maikousis said “over the last year it’s been a challenging season with difficult circumstances. Purely on Con’s efforts alone he has earned and deserves the opportunity to build and develop his own squad. We are grateful for the role he played last season and delivering results to avoid relegation. As we continue our progress towards 2019, we will provide Con

with every resource to ensure the success of the team. He has some great strengths and we look forward to building a support team around him to deliver the demanding on field results expected from all South Melbourne stakeholders.”

Esteban Quintas started playing football at a very young age in his native Argentina before joining Club Atletico Independeiente in its residency program at the age of 14. After a period of growth and development he traveled to Spain in 2000 staring with Athletico Madrid B and then with various clubs in the Segunda División B. After ten years playing in Spain, Quintas turned to the role of trainer and then coach with positions starting with Real Murica and culminating with a period at Hércules CF.

George Apostolidis studied at Victoria University completing a degree in Exercise Science and a Masters in Sports Science before gaining Level 1 accreditation with the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association. Apostolidis spent three years at Melbourne Victory during his University years and completed a study period at Real Madrid FC in Spain. Expanding his horizons in 2017, he spent three months in Saudi Arabia with Ettifaq FC before supporting Football Federation Australia performing Sports Science and Technical Analyst roles with the national U17 and U23 teams. Apostolidis experienced the NPL Victoria with Green Gully in the most recent season and in 2018 will work under Con Tangalakis as the Senior Men’s team Strength and Conditioning Coach.
