South Melbourne FC confirms that George Georgiadis has stepped away as Senior Head Coach for the 2025 season. George initially stepped in as a caretaker coach in 2022 and swiftly led our senior women to the Nike FC Cup Final. The pinnacle of his tenure was undoubtedly the 2023 season, where he inspired our team to clinch the NPLW Championship against Bulleen at The Home of the Matildas. This victory not only cemented his legacy as a championship-winning coach but also earned him a place in our Hall of Fame.
Despite the challenges of the 2024 season, George secured the Community Shield with a victory over Calder at Lakeside Stadium. Due to personal reasons, George has decided to step down from his role as senior coach.
SMFC Female Football Director Theo Chronis expressed gratitude for George’s commitment and contributions: “George took over during a challenging period for our women’s team, and within 12 months, he led us to a cup final and a historic NPLW win. George will always be a cherished member of the South family, remembered not only as a championship-winning coach but also as a mentor who supported the integration of youth players into the senior squad.
We wish him all the best for the future.
