South’s Senior Squad start Pre-Season training

Almost three months since lifting the inaugural PS4 National Premier League Victoria championship, South Melbourne’s senior squad reported for training on Monday night.

In warm conditions in Albert Park, the senior team were joined by the Under 20 squad as well as a number of trialists to form a large group of participants in the first session of the 2015 campaign.

The session would also provide a first coaching appearance for our new Senior Assistant Coach Dimitri Tsiaras, who made the seemless transition into the role following his retirement as a player last month. Tsiaras was also joined by Under 20 manager Sasa Kolman who also helped Chris Taylor put the players through their paces.

Also joining his new side for training was Bonel Obradovic after signing from Oakleigh Cannons over the break. Obradovic was the only one of the new signings to train on Monday, with Luke Adams, David Stirton and Andy Brennan all finalising their existing commitments before heading to Melbourne.

The squad will train solidly throughout December, before embarking on a series of friendly matches in the new year in preparation for the new season.

Keep an eye on smfc.com.au and all social media pages for an exclusive look at our pre-season, including any new signings, friendly matches and all other relevant information in the lead up to Round 1 in late February.

Star South Hobart striker Brennan signs with SMFC for 2015 NPL Season

South Melbourne FC is excited to announce the signing of South Hobart striker Andy Brennan ahead of the 2015 NPL Victoria season.

After an injury interrupted year in the Victorian Premier League with Bentleigh Greens in 2013, Brennan returned to Tasmania in 2014 and took the state by storm.

Brennan joins the Club after a stunning year for South Hobart, where he scored 25 League goals and played a major role in his side winning the NPL Tasmania (Victory League) Championship. On a personal level, Brennan’s exceptional season saw him take out the South Hobart Best and Fairest award and he also finished second in the 2014 Tasmanian Mitsubishi Best and Fairest award for the best player in the state.

Brennan also played a leading role in South Hobart’s qualification for the 2014 FFA Cup and PlayStation 4 NPL Finals Series. Many will recall how Brennan’s pace caused the South defence all sorts of problems during South’s difficult 0-1 victory against South Hobart at the South Hobart Ground on Saturday 20 September.

Twenty One year old Brennan will provide South Melbourne FC with a versatile player across the front half of the ground. He is able to play in multiple positions, including on either wing, behind the strikers or as a centre-forward. His elite speed, ability to take on defenders and a thirst for goal has made him one of the most prolific goal scorers in Tasmanian football.

Speaking to smfc.com.au, South Melbourne FC Football Director Nicholas Maikousis was pleased to have the young talent arrive at Lakeside Stadium. “Andy is a very exciting young talent who has been doing extremely well in Tasmania. We believe that with some hard work, he will be able to adapt to the game in Victoria and provide us with another attacking option for the 2015 season. He certainly caused us some headaches when we last played South Hobart and we look forward to him commencing his journey with us.”
