    South strengthen attack with Lawson signing

    South Melbourne FC can confirm the signing of winger Janna Lawson for the 2020 NPLW Victoria season.

    Lawson joins the club following a successful spell with Alamein, playing an important role as her former club made the finals last season.

    Her blistering pace and ability to pass defenders is a key attribute to her game, as she is expected to link up with new signing Caitlin Pickett to form a dynamic and formidable part of South’s front third.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Incoming Senior Coach Samuel Young was excited by the signing. “Janna is one of the finest players in NPLW Victoria today and it’s a real pleasure to have secured her signature. She has been an instrumental part of the Alamein attack in recent years and I am looking forward to working with her in the 2020 and beyond. Janna ticks every box for us in terms of how we want to play next season. She is very hard working off the ball, dominates when one on one and has a great mentality. Our attacking players will benefit greatly from having her with us.”

    Lawson was also pleased to be joining the club. “South is a big club and I am thrilled to be here. With the great facilities, Sam’s vision of how we are going to play and having the ability to play on Lakeside Stadium I can’t wait to get started.”

    South welcomes Janna to the club and looks forward to seeing her in 2020.

    South adds midfielder Daniel Clark to senior squad for 2020

    South Melbourne FC is thrilled to announce the signing of midfielder Daniel Clark for the 2020 NPL Victoria season.

    Clark joins us from local rivals Port Melbourne, as the club looks to strengthen its midfield.

    The 29-year-old is regarded as one of the hardest working midfielders in the competition, whilst also having the ability to create and score goals. Many would also know Daniel for his individual performances in the FFA Cup, ensuring both Hume City and Port Melbourne made it through to the elusive Round of 32.

    The Queenslander will be keen to make his mark at Lakeside and will be looking forward to playing alongside former Hume City teammate Marcus Schroen.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Senior Football Director Andrew Mesourouni was looking forward to seeing Daniel in the club’s midfield. “Daniel is an experienced and extremely hard-working player and we are excited to have him at the club. With his high work rate, experience and football intelligence, he will provide the explosive power we require in the midfield whilst linking up with Harrison Sawyer and Peter Skapetis. We will possess one of the most exciting forward lines in the league. ”

    Clark was also thrilled to join South. “Having spent a few years in the NPL Victorian competition, I have always enjoyed playing at Lakeside Stadium. To be able to call it home, whilst playing for an iconic club is a dream I’ve always wanted to realise. I thank both Esteban and Andrew for giving me the opportunity to be apart of its rich history. It’s a new era for the club and i am proud to be a part of it.”

    South Melbourne FC is pleased to announce its first signing of the 2020 NPL Victoria season, with young Central Defender Lirim Elmazi joining from Altona Magic.

    Elmazi joins the club following an outstanding three year stint with the Magic, playing an integral part in the promotion of the club to the NPL, as well as winning back-to-back best and fairest awards while leading the back four.

    The 21-year-old will provide coach Esteban Quintas with a versatile defensive option that is comfortable both in the air and on the ground. As well as this, it is his composure with the ball at his feet that also makes him an exciting prospect for our club.

    Elmazi played in 24 league games for Altona in 2019, where he was also able to advance up the park to score on two occasions.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Senior Football Director Andrew Mesourouni welcomed Lirim to the club. “We are thrilled to have Lirim join us for 2020, as we believe he will add a significant amount of size, defensive strength and quality to our back four. He has come off some fantastic individual seasons with Altona Magic and we are looking forward to seeing him bring this form to our club in 2020.”

    Elmazi was also thrilled to be joining the club. “South is a big club and I am excited to be joining them for the upcoming season. After speaking with Esteban, I am excited with direction that the club is taking. So the prospect of being able to help the club climb up the table and playing at Lakeside Stadium was appealing to me, so I can’t wait to get started.”

    Caitlin Pickett joins SMFC for 2020 season

    South Melbourne FC is delighted to announce that Caitlin Pickett is the club’s first signing for the 2020 NPLW Victoria season.

    Pickett played a key role at the University University of Wyoming (WYO) winning the Mountain West Conference title. in 2018. Pickett was a key member of the Geelong Galaxy squads over the past three seasons, including playing a leading role in her side making the Grand Final during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Her outstanding form also saw her represent Australia U19 Schoolgirls.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Incoming SMFC Head Coach Samuel Young was thrilled to welcome Caitlin to Lakeside. “I’m delighted to welcome Caitlin to the club. Caitlin has the ability to play anywhere in the front third, with her explosive pace and eye for goal her strength. With this, I believe she will cause problems for any defender in this league”.

    We welcome Caitlin to South Melbourne and look forward to seeing her in our colours.

    Harrison Sawyer joins for 2020 season

    South Melbourne FC is delighted to announce the signing of Australian marquee Harrison Sawyer ahead of the 2020 NPL Victoria season.

    The 22-year-old striker joins us from Tai Po of Hong Kong, where he played a leading role in their championship winning season and helped them reach the AFC Cup group stages.

    Prior to his experience in Hong Kong, Harrison had a successful stint at Davao Aguilas in the Phillipines boasting an impressive goal record. He also spent time with the Newcastle Jets in the Hyundai A-League.

    Standing at 195cm, Sawyer provides SMFC coach Esteban Quintas with a strong, aggressive and prolific option up front. His ability to win the ball both in the air and at ground level, plus his ability to shoot from range will be exciting components of his game to watch.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, SMFC Football Director Andrew Mesourouni was thrilled to have Sawyer at Lakeside Stadium. “Despite only being 22 years of age, Harrison joins the club having a wealth of goal-scoring experience both domestically and throughout professional leagues in Asia. He is a strong and hard-working striker and we can’t wait to see him on the park in 2020.”

    Sawyer himself was excited about joining the club. “South Melbourne is a big club in Australian football and I am ecstatic to be joining them for the upcoming season. I am looking forward to making an impact at Lakeside and scoring goals to give the fans exciting moments on the park. I can’t wait to get started.”

    Jake Marshall re-signs for 2020 season

    South Melbourne FC would like to announce that Jake Marshall has re-signed with the club for the 2020 NPL season.

    Marshall played a prominent role in our back four during the 2019 season, with the central defender featuring in 24 matches across all competitions.

    At only 21 years of age, he will be looking to build on his solid season to play a substantial role for the club in 2020.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Senior Football Director Andrew Mesourouni welcomed the re-signing. “Jake has worked hard in the past 18 months to play a significant role in our first eleven and we are excited to see him continue to develop under Esteban. We look forward to him being part of the squad as we commence pre-season in December.”

    KK departs ahead of 2020 season

    South Melbourne FC would like to confirm the departure of central defender and Hall of Fame member Kristian Konstantinidis.

    Konstantinidis leaves the club following a successful five-year stint, playing in 80 matches and scoring on 11 occasions. He will be best remembered for playing an integral role in our 2016 NPL Victoria Championship triumph, including a man of the match performance in the Semi Final win over Heidelberg at the Olympic Village.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Konstantinidis wanted to thank the club for his time. “Thank you to the club, in particular President Nick Maikousis, who stuck by me through thick and thin. I’d like to thank the fans, whose passion drives the club and is certainly felt on the pitch. To my team mates, the heights we reached were amazing and experiencing it at South Melbourne was second to none. This club has taught me a lot about the role football plays in life, but most importantly has helped shaped who I am today. I’m extremely proud to be a championship winner and life member of South Melbourne and that will live with me forever!”

    Lambropoulos re-signs for 2020 season

    South Melbourne FC is pleased to announce that Perry Lambropoulos has re-signed for the 2020 NPL Victoria season.

    The versatile Lambropoulos played in numerous positions across the back-four and in midfield last season and it is with this versatility that he is seen to be an integral part of Esteban Quintas’ squad.

    Formerly of Port Melbourne and Oakleigh, Lambropoulos featured in 23 league matches for the club in 2019.

    Speaking to smfc.com.au, Senior Football Director welcomed Perry for the upcoming season. “Perry’s work rate and versatility are something that we are excited to have as part of the squad this season. As well as his ability on the park, his leadership qualities and persona in the change rooms are something that we will once again be looking forward to having part of the club.”

    Also speaking to smfc.com.au, Perry Lambropoulos was elated to have remained at the club. “I’m looking forward to working with Esteban Quintas again in 2020, as he looks to build a squad and to compete at the top end of the table. I’ve enjoyed my time at the club to date and am looking forward to taking the next step in my career to help us achieve success in 2020.”
