South Melbourne will open its 50th year in style by playing 3 out of the opening 4 games at Bob Jane Stadium, in what promises to be an exciting start to the year for the club.
In the opening round on March 1st, South will host newly promoted Dandenong at Bob Jane Stadium, a fixture that is expected to draw a large opening round crowd.
Round 2 will then see South take on arch enemy Heidelberg United, 50 years after the clubs first played against each other in South’s first official recorded game. With the traditional Round 1 clash between both clubs scrapped for 2009, South is pleased to be playing Heidelberg at home early in the season to commemorate the 50th year anniversary of the club.
This will be followed by a Round 4 contest at home against the Melbourne Knights, with a tricky away trip to Preston in between both games.
In other notable fixture results, South will play Oakleigh at home in the opening half of the season for the first time since the club has returned to state league football, whilst also being scheduled to play away in Round 5 against Whittlesea whilst the venue is unavailable due to the Melbourne Grand Prix.
