The Football Federation of Victoria recently released the 2011 Victorian Premier League fixture.

The draw to complete the fixture was done as a live draw completed at the FFV offices in the presence of representatives of all VPL clubs.

The 2011 fixture will also see the introduction of the National Training Centre (NTC) who will compete for competition points. Matches against the NTC will be held mid week, however, the NTC will not participate in the VPL Finals Series or face the prospect of relegation.

Furthermore, this season will see the 2010 State League 1 Champions St Albans Saints and runners up Springvale White Eagles promoted to the 2011 Victorian Premier League.

Due to the reconstruction of Bob Jane Stadium, South’s temporary home for the 2011 VPL season will be John Cain Memorial Park once again.

South Melbourne FC opens the new season against the 2010 VPL Champions Green Gully on Sunday 20th February at 5pm at John Cain Memorial Park. Interestingly, South has not won in the first round of the VPL season since 2006, when it defeated Heidelberg United 2-0 at the Olympic Village, with two late goals giving South the three points on the day and proceeding to clinch the VPL Championship later that year. Round 1 will also see the Melbourne Knights host Dandenong Thunder, Bentleigh host Springvale, Hume City travel to St Albans, Richmond host Heidelberg, and Northcote City travel to the south-east to take on the Cannons.

South Melbourne FC will end the 2011 VPL season “away” to Northcote City at its temporary home at John Cain Memorial Park on Sunday 7th August at 3pm.

Please note that during the Daylight Savings period, home fixtures will kick off at 5pm, with a return to 3pm kick offs in round 8 with its home fixture against Richmond Eagles.
